About Me

Security Practitioner with 27 Years in Technology

My name is Michael Kendrick, and I’m passionate about helping people stay secure in both the physical and digital worlds. My career began in physical security as a Certified Registered Locksmith, where I learned the hands-on side of protecting homes and businesses.

Over time, I expanded that foundation into information technology, with a strong focus on infrastructure, operations, and cybersecurity. That transition led to a 27-year career in technology, including seven years in programming and more than two decades leading IT operations for the same organization. Over that time, I progressed from IT Manager to my current role as Director of Information Technology. That experience gave me a strong operational foundation in systems, risk management, and the practical realities of online security.

In that leadership capacity, I’ve been responsible for infrastructure, cybersecurity strategy, and risk management across a 200-employee, multi-location organization. I began in a deeply hands-on role supporting systems and network operations, then transitioned into more strategic oversight, guiding technology decisions and strengthening overall security posture. Today, I oversee network security, business-critical systems, incident response, and the evaluation of emerging technologies through a practical, real-world lens. Security is not theoretical to me. It’s operational.

Through Locks to Logins, I translate decades of real-world security experience into practical, plain-English guidance that helps everyday people protect their homes, accounts, and personal information.

Off the Clock

Outside of technology and security, I’m a proud father of three amazing kids and live in the Midwest, where I value hard work, honesty, and common sense. When I’m not writing or testing new gear, you’ll usually find me spending time with my family, fixing something around the house, or diving into a new project just to see how it works.

Locks to Logins grew out of my lifelong curiosity about how things work and how to keep them secure. It’s my way of sharing what I’ve learned from decades in the field and helping others feel more confident about protecting their homes, devices, and personal information.
